"Year after year, I refused to put my head under..."

Author Sarah Alexander has had a murky relationship with water her whole life; from an element to be feared in her school days, it eventually inspired her successful first novel, The Art Of Not Breathing. In this open and touching piece, Sarah shares the story of her struggle with the Blue, and how the water has brought both tragedy and redemption.

Sarah Alexander grew up in London with dreams of exploring the world and writing stories. After spending several years wandering the globe and getting into all sorts of scrapes, she returned to London and started writing stories. Her debut young adult novel, THE ART OF NOT BREATHING, won The Sheffield Children’s Book Award and was shortlisted for The Wirral Book Award.
